ParentLens ("we," "our," or "us") provides a parental monitoring service that helps parents oversee their children's interactions with AI chatbots. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our website (parentlens.ai), dashboard, and browser extension (collectively, the "Service").

We are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

Name and email address
Authentication credentials (password hash or Google OAuth token)
Billing information (processed by Stripe; we do not store card numbers)

2.2 Child Profile Information

Parents provide:

Child's first name (or nickname)
Child's age

We do not collect children's email addresses, photos, or other personal identifiers.

2.3 Conversation Data

When the browser extension is installed and active, it may collect AI chatbot conversation content from supported platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini). The extent of data collection depends on the mode selected by the parent:

Full Monitoring Mode: Conversation messages are transmitted to our servers for storage, analysis, and display on the parent dashboard.
Privacy Mode: Conversations are analyzed locally in the browser. Only risk assessments and alert metadata (risk level, categories, keyword matches) are sent to our servers. No conversation text is transmitted or stored.

2.4 Automatically Collected Data

We collect standard web analytics data including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited for service operation and improvement.

Analyze conversations for safety risks using keyword matching and AI analysis
Generate alerts and risk assessments for parents
Display conversation data on the parent dashboard
Process payments and manage subscriptions
Improve the accuracy of our risk detection systems
Communicate with you about your account and service updates

4. COPPA Compliance

ParentLens is a tool designed for parents. We do not market to or provide accounts to children under 13. The Service is accessed and controlled entirely by the parent or guardian.

Only parents create accounts and configure monitoring
Conversation data is collected under the authority and consent of the parent/guardian
Children do not interact with ParentLens directly
We collect minimal child information (first name and age only)
Parents can delete all child data at any time through the dashboard
We do not sell or share children's conversation data with third parties for marketing

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share data only with:

Stripe: Payment processing (name, email, billing details)
OpenAI: For AI-powered deep analysis on paid plans, anonymized conversation excerpts may be sent to OpenAI's API. No child names or identifying information is included.
Hosting providers: Our service infrastructure (Vercel, Neon PostgreSQL)
Law enforcement: If required by law or if we believe a child is in imminent danger

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure password hashing (bcrypt), and JWT-based authentication. Conversation data is stored in encrypted databases. Access to production systems is restricted to authorized personnel.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Account data is retained while your account is active
Conversation data can be deleted at any time by removing a child profile
Upon account deletion, all associated data (children, conversations, alerts) is permanently removed
We retain anonymized, aggregated analytics data for service improvement

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access your data and your children's monitored data through the dashboard
Delete child profiles and all associated conversation data
Delete your account and all data
Export your data upon request
Opt out of AI-powered analysis by using Privacy Mode

9. Third-Party Platforms

The ParentLens browser extension interacts with third-party AI chatbot platforms (ChatGPT by OpenAI, Claude by Anthropic, Gemini by Google). These platforms have their own Terms of Service and privacy policies. ParentLens is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. Use of the extension is at the parent's discretion and responsibility.

10. Browser Extension

The ParentLens browser extension operates on specified AI chatbot websites only. It does not:

Access browsing history, bookmarks, or other browser data
Monitor any websites other than supported AI chatbot platforms
Collect keystroke data or form inputs
Run when not on a supported AI chat page

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
